Lesson Summary:

In this lesson, we learn how to solve a value mixture problem using two variables and two linear equations. We are given a word problem about mixing punch and juice to create a mixture worth $1.40 per quart. By letting x be the amount of punch and y be the amount of juice, we create two equations: the cost of punch plus the cost of juice equals the cost of the mixture, and the amount of punch mixed with the amount of juice equals 8. Solving for x and y, we find that we used 5 quarts of punch to create the mixture.
