Lesson Summary:

In this lesson, we learn how to find three consecutive even integers whose sum equals a negative number. Consecutive means numbers right next to each other, and we're looking for even numbers. We start by making x represent the first even number, and then relate the rest of our unknowns to that one variable. We then use the sum to create an equation and solve for x, which gives us the first even number. By adding 2 and 4 to that number, we find that the three consecutive even numbers that add up to negative 114 are negative 40, negative 38, and negative 36.
