Lesson Summary:

In this introductory lesson on fractions, Professor Perez from Saddleback College teaches how to change fractions with different denominators using arithmetic. He uses the example of subtracting 3/2 from 2/3 plus 5/6, and demonstrates how to change each fraction to have a denominator of 6. He then goes on to show how to reduce the resulting fraction, 10/6, to 5/3. The lesson is a great starting point for those looking to learn more about fractions.

This video explains adding and subtracting fractions with different denominators with and without a number line. Common denominators are found in order to do the calculations. A number line is used to show how common denominators can be found, but the Algebra is shown as well. This is a very good lesson on adding / subtracting fractions.
