Lesson Summary:

In this lesson, we learned that a fraction is an equal part of a whole, written as a ratio of two numbers: the numerator and denominator. The numerator tells us how many of these equal parts we're concerned with, while the denominator tells us how many parts the whole is divided into. Fractions are commonly used in cooking, measurement, and maps. It's important to always relate fractions to the whole thing and understand their essential concepts.

Lesson Description:

This lesson is an excellent introduction to what fractions are, how they are written, what terms mean for fractions, and what they are used for. This is a wonderful place to start when first learning about fractions. Pictures are also used to drive home the idea of a part of a whole.
