Lesson Summary:

In this lesson, the problem of finding how many coins of different values a person has in their wallet is solved through the use of a chart. The chart keeps track of the type of coin, the unit value of each coin, and the number of each coin in the wallet. By setting up an equation with the total value of the coins and solving for the number of nickels, the value of the dimes can be found and the solution can be checked. The final answer is that Barb has 13 nickels and 5 dimes in her wallet.

Lesson Description:

Shows how to solve a word problem having to do with different coins and their values. This is solved with one variable, but more than one coin is defined. It is done with a chart.
