Lesson Summary:

This lesson teaches how to solve word problems involving multiple types of coins using a chart and one variable. The problem presented in the lesson involves dimes, nickels, and quarters, and the solution is found by assigning a variable to the number of dimes, then using the given information to find the number of quarters and nickels. The final step involves adding up the values of each type of coin to confirm that the total equals the given amount.

Lesson Description:

This third video in the series is another really good explanation of how to determine how many of each type of coin a person has given the total value of the person's coins and some more information about the relationship between the number of coins the person has. This example is a bit more difficult because 3 different types of coin are in this example.
