In this lesson, we learn how to evaluate a logarithm with a fractional exponent. By plugging in x equals 4, we simplify log base 16 of 4 to 16 raised to what power gives me 4. Since 16 is larger than 4, we need to find a fraction that is less than 1, which results in us raising 16 to the 1/4 power. This means we need to find the fourth root of 16, and raising it to the 1/5 power gives us the answer of 4.
