Lesson Summary:

In this lesson on Understanding Fractions, the concept of perspective is explored to help students grasp the idea of whole and fractional parts. The lesson covers the basics of fractions, including the denominator and numerator, as well as common and unit fractions. Drawing typical fractions on a circle is also demonstrated, along with tips for drawing more precise slices for larger numbers of parts. The use of a TI-84+ Graphing Calculator is integrated into the lesson for performing various fraction operations and conversions.

Lesson Description:

Lesson 6 consists of providing you with a Self-Tutorial on all about fractions. This lesson is different from the previous ones in that the use of printed Notes is integrated with the Video (other Notes may be used independently of the videos). This lesson is VERY detailed and covers the necessary areas to help students review the many aspects of fractions and fraction conversions. I also show you how to perform all the many different fraction operations and conversions using the TI-84+ Graphing Calculator.

Concepts covered: Denominator, Numerator, Common Fraction, and Unit Fraction. I also teach you how to draw typical fractions on a circle.

    A great tutorial on fractions. What does it mean to have a fraction? How are fractions represented? What difference does it make whether you think of things using whole parts or fractional parts?
